US Tour + return to Aus/NZ/UK/Canada in 2015

I’m so very excited to announce a massive US tour starting this week!

For those in Australia, NZ, Canada and the UK, I also have news about when i’ll be touring next in 2015.

Firstly though, I’m honoured to be invited on the road with a brilliant young trio called…
The Stray Birds, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The Stray Birds

Named in NPRs top 10 folk albums and one of the best old time-new time bluegrass-harmony groups I’ve ever seen they are amazing!!!

We met in Glasgow, Scotland in the bitter cold of January 2014. They offered me a bed in their hotel room, and were so kind to me, twas the beginning of a new found friendship. But during a taxi ride the next day for some sight seeing to Kensington Grove it almost came to an abrupt end when my boiling hot pumpkin soup went flying over the whole band and their new shoes.

Somehow they forgave me, and here we are 9 months later getting in the van across the great expanse of America to celebrate their new album release, and continuing my international release of ‘Not Built To Last’.

I thought I’d seen so much of the USA in the last 2 years but the more you see…well, the bigger it gets! I’ll be playing my debut performances in 30 new cities opening for and collaborating with The Stray Birds.

Check out this video of The Stray Birds jamming ‘Black Diamond’ with me at a house concert in Edinburgh, Scotland just after I spilled the soup all over em!

I’ll also be zipping around for a few of my own headliners during the tour including a return to Berkeley/San Fransisco’s Freight & Salvage for a double bill with one of my favourites, Rose Cousins, from Nova Scotia, Canada. Tickets are now on sale (click HERE) and this is one for you West Coasters to not dare miss!

We  are also very excited to announce we have been invited back to play one of our favourite folk festivals in the world, Port Fairy, in Victoria in March 2015. Alongside Sinead O’Connor, John Butler Trio and Richard Thompson, tickets and info are here: http://www.portfairyfolkfestival.com/

This is just the first thing we can share with you from a string of festivals and headline shows back in Aus & NZ in Feb, March and April 2015.

We also have awesome festivals and tours slated for Canada and the UK in May-June 2015 that we’ll share with you very soon! For those in the North-West of England, we can tell ya i’ll be playing at Ireby Festival so chuck that one in the diary!

North American Summer Tour and EP Release announced

Friends,

we are very excited to announce the international release of my EP, ‘Not Built To Last’ on 5th August, 2014, digitally worldwide via Blood Thinner Records. To celebrate we kick off the tour at Edmonton Folk Festival in Alberta, Canada and then play a string of East Coast Dates in the USA and Canada.

Here’s some words about ‘Not Built To Last’.

‘Not Built To Last’ has been released to glowing reviews in Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald said “this guy is one of the country’s contemporary legends…file it under K for Keeper” in a 4.5 star review, while The Brag said “there  are few musicians who can find, develop and master their own style as quickly or as professionally as Jordie Lane has done”.

Recorded at The Casino in Nashville over 3 days, ‘Not Built To Last’ is produced by Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose, Wanda Jackson) and features an all-star Nashville band. Over five songs, Lane embraces a classic 70’s aesthetic, launching with the shining and infectious ‘Here She Comes’, followed by the desolate, and moody ‘Dead Of Light’, which closes with a Daft Punk inspired groove over the line “we’re not built to last”. ‘Maybe Someday’ see’s Lane unleash his soaring vocal on a bittersweet, Brunswick Street inspired love song, while ‘Lost In You’ harks back to the lyrical folk sound he has built his reputation on. Lane tips his hat to fellow Melbourne songwriter Brendan Welch on the closer ‘Think I Always Thought’, which encapsulates the record’s defining themes of transience and mortality

London, Celtic Connections, Canada with OML and Folk Alliance #international

2014 has kicked off with an incredible run of international travel and amazing shows. It all began at Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, Australia where the band and I played some cracking shows in the blistering heat before seeing in the new year at one of the worlds best festivals.

I then had a few weeks off before traveling back to LA to drop some gear off, just in time to go to the airport and fly to London. We sold out my first ever London show at the Green Note, and then went to Glasgow for Celtic Connections where I played in front of 2000 people supporting Mary Chapin Carpenter. Celtic Connections brings in amazing bands from all over the world, and I got to spend a few days with new friends The Stray Birds, and even got up for a song at their house concert in Edinburgh. See the video HERE

After a few days in New York, I arrived in Halifax to begin another tour with Old Man Luedecke, this time in the heart of the Canadian winter after our very warm summer tour of Australia in October/November. We play 25 dates around the country, and in between I jump to Folk Alliance International for a wild ride of 14 shows in 3 days with lots of friends, including The Stray Birds and Liz Stringer from back in Melbourne.

Here is a photo that captures some of the madness of the last few months!

FESTIVAL OF SMALL HALLS w/ Rose Cousins in November/December

I will head on the road with the amazing Rose Cousins for the Festival of Small Halls, which kicks off just after Mullumbimby Music Festival.

This tour goes through small regional towns in Queensland, places that have populations of 300-400 in many cases. You can check it all out at http://festivalofsmallhalls.com/
and find tour dates at by clicking on SHOWS above.

Here is a video of Rose & I singing the Guy Clark classic ‘LA Freeway’ earlier this year.
